Welcome to Yorktown Speech and Debate
Welcome to the Yorktown Speech and Debate Team.
Your child has chosen to participate in a rewarding activity that will enhance their communication skills for life. To maintain this wonderful opportunity, involvement from all parents/guardians is essential.
Please plan to attend the September 24, 2025 Parent Meeting at 6pm in the YHS Cafeteria.
Complete the following steps to kick-off the season:
1. Fill out these forms (Due September 25): parent contract and registration form and emergency contact form. (Email to danielle.jones@apsva.us). These forms were also sent home with students.
We have a parent/guardian email list for information and updates. If you have not received an email from the YHS Speech and Debate Boosters, please send Michelle (mlthompson72@gmail.com) an email so you can be added to the group!
2. Pay Dues (Due September 25) – See the dues tab for all payment options. Scholarships available.
3. Sign Up to Judge
All parents are required to judge at least two tournaments. Training is provided and it is not hard to judge – we promise. Judge training is offered October 4. Details about judge training and registration are available here. Other training options are available if you can’t make this date.
4. Review the 2025-26 Schedules and Events and these events to your calendar.
5. Get involved in Booster Organization and Volunteer Opportunities
With such a large team, we are highly dependent on our parents to ensure as many students as possible can compete. Volunteer opportunities include judging and helping organize the 2 tournaments that will take place at Yorktown. Learn more about Booster and Volunteer opportunities (coming soon).
