Yorktown has a new online registration system which is required for trying out or participating in any
sport. This replaces the physical VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination
form and emergency care card which are now done electronically. This process will help us minimize
paper collection, streamline data entry, run compliance reports, and will reduce the number of forms
that parents must fill out.
Each family will create one account to register all their children. Be sure to register your children for
all the sports they might be interested in. While registering does not guarantee a spot on the team,
this information will help to ensure your student is ready to go on the first day of tryouts. Students will
not be allowed to try out if they are not registered for the specific sports they wish to try out for.
Students may be registered for multiple activities throughout the year and families can sign in as

8th and 9th grade students interested in playing freshmen football should plan to report at 2 pm in the gym on Monday, August 7 for check-in and a meeting before heading to the field for practice at 3 pm.

Tryouts and practices will typically be in the afternoon from 2:30-5:30 or 3-6 pm prior to the start of school. There will be optional, morning walk-throughs on some weekdays prior to August 17.

Please make sure to register online prior to Monday, August 7 as the Activities Office is no longer accepting paper registration forms.

YHS Freshman Football – Rising 8th and 9th Graders

If your child is interested in playing Freshman Football this fall at Yorktown, please consider attending our May Parents Meeting on Wednesday, May 17th at 7:00 pm in Patriots Hall (located across from the main gym).  Our head coach, Bruce Hanson along with Coach McBride, head Freshman coach, will be there to talk to you about the YHS football program and answer any questions you may have.  Even if your child has not decided, this meeting is a great way to understand exactly what to expect from the program in the event they do choose to play from practice requirements to type of equipment used to coaching style.  We have a great set of coaches and most of them actually teach at YHS.

Freshman practices/tryouts begin around August 1.  Practices are mandatory and you should expect practices to run Monday – Friday and Saturday mornings during August.  All players must have a physical on file with the Athletic Department in order to play.  A copy of the physical can be found here – https://www.yorktownsports.org/main/filesLinks/.  The latest information is posted on Stack Team App so if you have not already done so, please download Stack Team App and access YHS – Football.  Once you are at the YHS – Football page, click on the gear icon in the top right corner and request access to Boosters Parent Group – All parents welcome.  You may also request access to any additional groups you find relevant.

YHS Field Hockey – Rising 8th and 9th Graders

If your child is interested in playing Field Hockey this fall at Yorktown, please visit our Field Hockey information page on YHSBoosters.org  Even if your child has not decided, this is a great way to understand exactly what to expect from the program in the event they do choose to play from practice requirements to type of equipment used to coaching style.  We have a great set of coaches and most of them actually teach in Arlington and with back to back trips to the State Championships (with a win in 2021), we’re a pretty successful team as well.

If you have not received an email about the fundraiser on August 29th, we do not have your email address. Please use the following link to provide it when you have a moment. We will also be collecting them at the Freshmen Team meeting tonight.

You will see on the google sheet a request for your player’s shirt and short size. This is for player packs. If your player was at practice this past Saturday then we have the information. If your player was not at practice, please use this sheet to input their information.

*Final* – Senior Night Update

All,

Due to a lot of things and coupled with COVID restrictions we need to make one final change to tomorrow’s schedule and revise some events. Thank you for your patience as we worked through this.

6:15-6:20: families will gather in the near field end zone for a coaches’ talk. This is a long tradition at YHS and we are excited to be able to honor it.

6:45: there will be an on field ceremony for parents/players that will include introductions and pictures.

Following the introductions and ceremony, families will remain on the field with their player for the National Anthem. Families will line up by their players’ helmets, which will be on the sideline spaced appropriately.

Please arrive in time to complete Covid screening and remember everyone must be masked at all times.

Following the last game of the season we will post all pictures that we have taken throughout the season for you and your player to download/print (free) in a Dropbox site, including those we take tomorrow.

Today at 3 pm we will be accepting names on the Google Doc, link below, for those interested in a 3rd ticket. For this home game vs W&L, parents of Varsity players will be receiving 2 tickets. In addition, if you are a varsity parent and know you have an extra ticket you may also post your extra ticket on this list as well. We are unsure of how many extras we may have, hence the reason for accepting names at this time. Thank you.
