Lou Serpa dedicated his life to young players throughout Arlington. He was a coach, mentor and teacher. After his death in 2005, an annual scholarship, awarded to a Yorktown baseball player, was created in his memory so that his legacy would be passed on through generations. Varsity baseball underclassman vote for a senior player who exemplifies the following criteria:
Respect for the game and knowledge of the rules.
Respect for umpires, coaches and teammates.
Enthusiasm and passion for the game.
Leadership, guidance and encouragement to younger players.
Understanding of the team concept in the game of baseball.
Jones Family Scholarship
The Jones Family Scholarship is awarded each year to a Senior who demonstrates the true commitment of being a team player. The recipient will have given their all to the team not only on but also off the field. This player defines what a teammate is by pushing others to continue to get better even if it means sacrificing on their end at times. They are a Yorktown Patriot through and through and would give any and everything they have to the team. Team goes first always!
